So here it is, yesterday is the day I stumbled upon the Local Natives during one of my daily temporal slip – when I disappear in a hole made from the web, and reappear some time later with new information (new to me) about something that could someday prove useful (or maybe not).

So yesterday as I hopped from one place to the next, this video caught my eye. And after a few clicks I discovered:

A. They are from Silver Lake / B. They are five of them / C. They like guitares and one has a strange squicky voice.

And they were in concert last night at the Pully For Noise, next to the town I live. But I wasn’t there. So the morality of it all is that’s it’s just a question of timing.

Michael Cera has the typical size and shape of a nerd, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. You might know him from the 3 year show “Arrested Development” where he was George Michael, Maeby’s cousin. If you have never heard of AD then you should maybe try to rent it, buy it, or download it because it’s the funniest show and has unfortunately been “killed“ to soon, so it is a classical, almost.

Another Michael Cera movie I would defitely recommend is “Youth in Revolt”, a story about a shy teenager who creates a rebel persona, a sort of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde

A new addition to the fashion-houses-that-make-films is Zoe Cassavetes film for Louis Vuitton aka Marc Jacobs. Two models play a game of Hide and Seek in the english country side. A little bit on the Sofia Coppola side, all girly and pretty.Cheers!

Voici un film qui a été présenté à Cannes à la Semaine de la Critique et qui est passé dimanche au Festival International du Film de Locarno.
”Rubber” de Quentin Dupieux

Un film qui rappelle “Duel” de Spielberg, une histoire de pneu vengeur. Mise à part le synopsis qui suffit pour donner envie, le fait que le film a été intégralement tourné avec l’appareil photo Canon Eos 5D Mark II mérite qu’on y porte de l’attention. Avec l’évolution des appareils photos et des vidéos amateurs qui deviennent de plus en plus pros, Quentin Dupieux laisse penser que le cinéma est désormais à portée de tous. Vraiment?

Hard to recognize this pop star.

I watched this 27 minute documentary on Zurich Rock bands in 1983 (out of the archives of the Swiss Television, Rock et belles oreilles). A vision of Zurich in the 80’s through it’s music. Interesting, naive, and a nice flashback. If you don’t know this man already…

I am a total fan of the The New York Times’ video library. There are great videos with all kinds of topics, from breaking news to the editor’s picks of all time favorite movies. This website is MY tv.

One contributor I follow is Bill Cunningham and his “On The Street” videos, which in fact are not video per se, but a commented slide show of fashionable people on the streets of New York. A must see! And must hear! Cunningham’s comments with his grainy voice are absolutely great: not a fashion statement, no do’s and don’t (or “its” whatever!). Just a comment on how people fabiously dress on the street. This 80 year old photographer (he denies he is a photographer, see underneath), always camera in hand, always wearing a blue jacket has become a sort of New York landmark, a sartorial Weegee.

Here is a excerpt of the article “Bill on Bill” he wrote on himself for The New York Times in 2002:
“I started photographing people on the street during World War II. I used a little box Brownie. Nothing too expensive. The problem is I’m not a good photographer. To be perfectly honest, I’m too shy. Not aggressive enough. Well, I’m not aggressive at all. I just loved to see wonderfully dressed women, and I still do. That’s all there is to it.”

This man, of which Anna Wintour says “We all get dressed for Bill”, is now the subject of a documentary film by Richard Press simply called “Bill Cunningham, New York”.
